William Maclay Architects and Planners, P.C. is an architecture and planning firm specializing in the design of buildings that take care of human needs and aspirations while incorporating energy and resource conservation, optimal indoor air quality, healthy building design technologies and environmentally responsive land use planning. William Maclay Architects & Planners has received numerous awards for excellence in design and environmental innovation. We are a professional corporation offering standard architectural services, feasibility and planning studies, space planning, historic preservation services, site assessments, environmental and permit consulting. Located in Waitsfield, VT, we are experienced in commercial, institutional, multifamily and single family residential projects. We have offered professional services throughout New England since 1981. The office has networked computer capabilities including Computer Aided Drafting, (CAD), 3D imaging, scanning, photo-imaging, and color laser printing.

 

Representative projects include: A gold LEED rated office and manufacturing facility for NRG Systems in Hinesburg, VT; a manufacturing facility in Salem, NY, a 103-room resort hotel at Killington Ski Area; interior office design for an engineering firm in Norwich, VT and for Seventh Generation in Burlington VT and aquaculture facility near Greenfield, Massachusetts; Affordable housing and renovation projects in St. Albans, Barton, Morrisville, Hardwick, and Wells River, VT; a senior center with housing and a design-build school in Waitsfield, VT; a childcare center in Middlebury; Cohousing projects in Charlotte and Bennington VT; a family environmental camp in Starksboro, VT; community smart growth projects in Middlebury, Waterbury, Bennington and South Burlington, VT retail in the historic centers of Hardwick and Manchester, VT; and uniquely designed individual residences throughout New England.

 

William Maclay has specialized in architectural and environmental design, planning and construction since 1971. He has lectured or taught at many colleges and universities. He has a B.A. from Williams College and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. He is registered in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Massachusetts, and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He served as the President of the VT Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 1994-95. He serves on the Board of Directors of the VT Businesses for Social Responsibility (1993 - present) and the Yestermorrow School in Waitsfield (1997 - 2002).
