The Vermont Healthy Home was designed to be a healthy and wonderful place to live, maximizing people's connection to nature and sun, and minimizing negative environmental impacts. The design of the exterior envelope incorporates highly insulated walls and roofs, "super-windows," drainage plane wall detailing, and certified and durable siding and decking for energy conservation, moisture control, durability, and home comfort.

The layout of the Vermont Healthy Home is open and flexible to accommodate modern lifestyles and to optimize the connection with the outdoors. Materials with environmental benefits are utilized throughout the home. These include recycled content material, materials from local and certified sustainably-managed sources, and low toxic materials. Toxic materials are eliminated. Optimum indoor air quality is provided by an energy efficient ventilation system.
